I started my tank with a yellow tailed damsel 3+ years ago and still have him in there :)
ps- don't use damsels to cycle your tank

When I got my tank I bought it off craigs list with everything even transfered the water. One guy that I worked with told me to get 2 damsels because they were hardy fish. So I did and 2 days later they vanished. I had to go in and move every rock and couldn't find them for the life of me. I then had the water tested because I didn't have it tested after the tank was set-up. Amonia was to high and the Ph was somewhat low. After about 2 weeks I had the water tested again and everything was safe. So today I picked up 2 clown fish, I forgot which ones they were, they are black/yellow with white stripes.

i put a damsel in my tank as one of my first fish along with 3 chromis. my damsel grew to be about 3 or 4 inches in size and started taking over the tank. very territorial and killed my lawnmower blenny and all the chromis i put in. i had to call somone to get him out becuase i didn't know what i was doing. NEVER put damsels in a tank unless you have other aggresive fish to hold their own
yellow tails are the worst from what ive seen

odd, yellowtails are supposed to be one of the less aggressive damsels, if there is such a thing
i had 2 in a 55 and 2 in a 29...i moved the ones out of the 29 into the 55, within 2 hours i had to get the other 2 out of there...lost 1 a few days later, the other one made it....
maybe youre talking about being aggressive toward another species...im talking yellow tail to yellow tail

My yellow tail was the most skiddish fish in my tank, NEVER got agressive. i traded him in a few months ago.

Oddly enough my yellowtail is calm and cool, the domino is a bit of a pushover, but the 3 stripe damsels are plain out bullies.
They get almost all flake food and beat the domino up. The yellow tail holds his own against the stripes, but otherwise doesn't bother anyone/anything. Doesn't get aggressive and is rather a chicken.

Just use some flake food and get your net ready. I just put the net in the water and would push some flake mid-depth with it and hold it still until the Damsels would come out to nab it. They couldn't resist.
Even after I caught one and he got out of the net, he still came back again and I got him
. This method works best IMO, it's a real pain when they start hiding behind LR and other good stuff.

i have several damsels, as i was one of the unlucky people told to get damsels first to help cycle the tank. the two domino damsels grew faster than the others. the largest quickly getting dominant and attacking the others. he was a pain to get out but finally did and took him back to the lfs. my yellow tail is the most skittish even though when i bought them he was the largest. six months later he is now the smallest and hides most of the time.

I also have 2 damsels, (Domino and Blue), the Domino drives de Blue crazy, but actually the blue look after him, till the Domino gets pissed, (this happens very fast as you all might know), and when the Domino start running after him , he just hide in a place he knows the other cant get in. But at the same time the Blue is getting more agressive with the Tomato clown lately, and for some reason the Tomato is afraid of him...
