I would tend to to think going from 1.0023 to 1.009 would shock the fish??? A slow drip would take 2 days no??

There is no point to hypo-ing a fish-less display tank. Just leave it without fish for a month, and it should be ich-free by then. The point is, don't add new fish to the display without first quarantining new fish for at least 3 weeks.

You are doing hypo in the DT or the qt? You say hypo in the dt, but there are no fish in there? Please explain.

idk i didnt mean to say that then..
to clear things up, i have 4 fish and a eel in hypo right now.
if i added more fish, would that be the same as qting them? and i wouldnt have to worry about ick with them right?

You could acclimate a new fish in, but you will have to set up a makeshift acclimation container with a heater and a powerhead for two days while you lower the SG. Remember to start the count over once the new fish is in. Give him several days to show any signs of ich before you begin to re-count the 3 weeks.

ok, so people hypo fish instead of qt then possibly hypo? you can just skip the qt and go strait to hypo to play things real safe?

yes some people hypo there new fish right away, this way you no there is no ick on fish. This only adds a couple of weeks to qt. need time to see if ick apears on fish when first introduced to your qt tank, then start three week count and one week to bring salt level up. So you are adding about 2 weeks to qt time. I say better safe than sorry.
