Not if its fully cured. Ie, u go buy it at a lfs it stays wet and u put it in your tank rt away. Now if u online order it will need to be cured

I added a couple of new pieces of LR to my aquarium from my LFS (kept it wet) and my tank still went through a cycle that killed 60% of my livestock! Just be careful.

That was some seriously bad rock then, or it was just coincidence. I added 8-12lbs of lr to my 75 monthly w no issue. I did so w 2 diff types of rock. True live rock w sponge, alage, criiters , ect and the carib sea life branch rock. To this day I still do it if I find some loaded w life to give my fish an extra snack

Just because rock is in a tank at the LFS does not mean it's cured. Many stores just sell the rock, and never bother with how long it's been in the holding tank...they just order more rock and toss it in.

My LFS had rock in the tanks where they kept fish... I would hand pick the pieces I wanted, I was sure that way, that the rock was indeed cured. The only drawback is if they have ich, and many stores do. 4 to 6 weeks quarantine...may as well cure the rock yourself just to be sure.
