Adding more Live Sand to a tank with fish inside to get a 4" DSB

 Hello, I have a 29 gallon tank and I have about 1 1/2 inches (18 lbs) of crushed coral on the aquarium floor and then I added about 3/4 inch of live sand (10 lbs). My question is how do I add more Live Sand to get a 4 inch DEEP SAND BED and will the clowdly muddy water when adding the live sand hurt the fish? I also have 55 lbs of live rock in the aqaurium.
Thanks for your advise, this message board is great and you hobbists really have helped me.
Thanks,
Greg

Get rid of the cc and use 100% sand. Live sand did not cloud my tank very much when I added it, I added 20lbs at a time. My tank is 125gal.

ditto, to all
if you want to use some dry sand too, to cut cost on the dsb(but as mentioned live sand will not cloud nearly as bad), you can pour it down a tube like pvc(just make sure it is clean and has neveer had ANYTHING it), you probably will get some dust, but you will be better off in the long run
yes cloudy water can add to the stress of your fish , which you know can be unhealthy, just go slow, incase, and if it starts to get too cloudy, pause for a while
HTH and good luck

I agree with fshhub. You probably won't get much of a cloud with live sand but with dry sand there will be a cloud. Mix the two types(its lot cheaper) and you will get the same results. Add a bag of live sand than just pour some dry(oolic type) sand on top and gently mix. I did this same thing about a year ago, wasn't too bad, cleared up in about six hrs. Add the dry sand very slow through a 1-1/2" PVC pipe. Thats what i did & it worked great. HTH
