Adding more return pumps?

I have a 90g, with overflow, came drilled. It has one return pump (standard), but of course this isn't optimal for good water flow. In tank powerheads aren't very powerful and can be a pain in the but, so I was thinking, is there other ways to add more return pumps in order to increase the flow greatly? I really have no idea how to go about doing this except maybe with PVC pipe that goes up the back, behind the tank, and even then I would need some ideas. Any suggestions or info?

Do a search for a closed loop system. Two return pumps is a reciepe for disaster, so the CL is the only other way I can think of outside of the obvious powerhead.

I'm not sure where you are getting your info on in-tank power heads but I find them quite simple in design, installation, and maintenance, extremely efficient, and easily capable of flow rates to 3000 GPH in a small package. Most are very affordable but the high end controlled versions are very expensive but worth it IMO.
Take a look at these products and see what you think,
Maxi-jet 900&1200 OK when stock, can be modded for WAY more flow.
Seio 620 to 1800 620 to 1800 gph, choose what suits you.
Hydor Korali(spl) 1-4, again several to choose from. These are new but seem to be gaining a lot of popularity.
Tunze with the controller- Pretty much can do whatever you need from mild to wild, VERY expensive though, and in thier defense, I tried other power heads, small and large closed loop systems and wavemaking device. IMO nothing can match what the Tunze system can offer and I would have saved money by not being cheap and just going with the Tunze system from the start.
The only drawback is some people dont care to see them in the tank.
