Adding new LR to an established tank

I have read this on here before but didnt really read it. Is it ok to add new LR to an old tank? I feel that my tank needs more rock and would like to add some. Is this ok?

yes, but make sure you cure it again, if you order online. Get some die off
during shipping.
I agree, but you should QT all rock even if it is claimed to be fully cured just to check.

hmm..i disagree.
depending on the size of the tank, and how much rock you add, bringing rock home wrapped in some wet newspaper is not going to prevent some die-off.
unless you have a 100 gallon tank and are adding 15 pounds of rock, i'd put it in a separate container and give it a few days. check the water parameters of that container, and then you can be sure.
btw- i've seen plenty of local stores selling "cured" rock with all sorts of soft matter hanging off of it. alot of dead sponges and plants will most certainly cause some issues.

unless you have seen the pieces you are about to buy at the LFS for 4-6 weeks, you have no idea if they are cured or not. They could have gotten the rock the day before you bought it. I would QT it unless it is an insignificant addition to the system (dito mr_x).

If its only a small amount you will be fine adding any rock to your tank. I cant afford to buy all the rock i need for my 30 gallon yet (i know, im a poor guy) so im buying it a couple pounds at a time. That also helps me with size. I would prefer to have smaller amounts of rocks than larger ones becuase of the size of my tank.

You can always take a bucket of salt water and keep it submerged on the way home... BUt you gotta know if the LFS just got the rocks in yesterday and they aren't cured from their die off yet.

Yes I have done it this way more than once. Just like others have said be sure the rock is totally cured first.
