Adding sand does it cycle?

Finished 20 gal sump
I need to add some live sand to my new sump.
Everything is running through now.
Can I stop the cycle through for a day let the sand settle and start back up without cycling the live sand?
I am just thinking of buying the standard live sand in a bag.
Thanks

If you mean stop the flow for one day then it probably won't make much difference one way or the other.

So I want to add sand to my sump. The sump is running now to the tank that is occupied. If I put live sand into the sump will it then cycle and hurt my display tank?
If it wont hurt my DT then what I would like to do is stop running my sump until the sand clears and then start it up again hoping there will be no cycle damaging everything.
Is that more clear I hope?

i love when people ignore peoples questions with their own questions. anyway ishtar i think you will be fine. you can also buy a bad of regular arginite sand and the bacteria from your tank will seed it with the bacteria that the live sand in the bag comes with. this is cheeper and also assures that you dont have a cycle. it does cloud a little more though!!!!

I think it does. But adding more cured L/R helps the most. You can tell when you tank is cycled the water gets very clear.

what you do is cure it in a bucket for about a week or two with water from your tank and a powerhead, then add it

That sounds like the idea I should use as it should prevent harm for sure.
After a week do I add all the contents of the bucket (water and sand) into the fuge?

The standard live sand in a bag is "live" because of the bacteria in it. You'll find that it is very wet to the point of being watery. If this is the only sand you will be using, I'd stop the flow, and add the sand. The sand should settle quickly and you should be OK. You may get some cloudiness but, the system should take care of it fairly quickly. This would not work with dry sand. HTH

Cloudiness I can deal with, a cycle is what I am afraid of.
If everyone seems confident in the live sand then maybe I should go for it.
