adding sand once established

hey, quick question. my 12g is pretty has been running for over a year now but its moved a couple of times.. i want to add more sand, about 15 lbs aragonite- is this ok to put over my old sand or mix up with it while evrything is still in the tank.
i have 2 fish, corals and inverts.

better to pre cure it with old tank water, then add at a rate of 1/4 to 1/2 inch per week to existing tanks.
