Adding Sand to DSB

Okay, so, I'm going to add 20 more lbs Nature's Ocean Sand to even out the sand bed. I have my LR up on frags and I now turn off the powerheads on the bottom (back) of the tank. I turn them on for a few minutes twice a day to blow "stuff" out from behind the rocks.
Question: 40lbs is very fine Nature's Ocean, 20lbs very fine crushed coral sand and there is about 5 pounds of crushed coral (the only "sand" the LFS sells as "live"). The cc has mostly gravitated to the back left corner behind the rock where the sand bed is about an inch.
Can I just take the NO Sand out of the bags in cups and just dump sand where it is needed? I'm hoping not to disturb my LR structure or my fish any more. (We just moved about a week and 1/2 ago).

YOu can, if your DSB hasn't been up that long you won't hurt anything. That's what I did, just pour it really slow and you will get minimul dust.

I'd place sand in increments into a large ziplock [the zipper kind] and then lock it up. Submerge the bag with sand to the spot in the tank that you want it then slowly spill it out.
This should help to keep down the cloudiness or suspending too many sand particles in the tank water or on the LR. If you get a lot on the LR, then, once finished with the sand, just use a small PH to blow the sand off the LR.

You could also get a 24" piece of PVC pipe and feed the sand down to your existing DSB that way too. After you put the piece of PVC in the water kind of stick it in the sand a little, than fill it with sand. Slowly raise the PVC to allow the sand to drop out of the tube. Doing this you will elimanate alot of the sand storm you can get when you add it all at once. I also like Beths suggestion using a zip-lock bag. HTH

im considering doing the same thing with my tank as well, the tank has been running for 8 months. Will adding another inch or two hurt the growth that is already established??
