adding stuff (chemicals)

The reason why I add my chems to the main tank instead of the sump/ wet&dry, is that I believe that the skimmer would probably skim out some one the things that I am trying to put in. Yes, alot of people turn off their skimmer for some time while the chemicals revolve around in the system, but I really never turn mine off.
That's just me.... :D
BTW,
Has your tank cycled...? You state that your water is from 3/29/02 and you have zero nitrites or ammonia...?

yes the tank has cycled (i belive everything is growing like crazy espeacially the hair alge and red corline alge) I'm going to take new readings this weekend before my next water change, but I don't know if I trust myself or my readings. What I mean to says is, there is no change in the water color (i use the seatest i think it's called where you add chemicals to small bit of water in a tube). I brought the water to LFS and he said it was all 0 and i should trust my tests. not saying i want to get high readings but at leas t i would know i was doing it right.

Trying4reef,
Please do not misunderstand me...
You did have the ammonia spike, then the nitrite spiked while your anmmonia went down, and finnaly your Nitrates spiked, while you Nitrites went down. Now you have ZERO of all three....?
That sounds like a pretty fast cycle... 2 weeks.. Hummm.
Just thought I would ask....Cool..!

no offense taking. you'd have to TRy pretty hard to insult me ;) . but any ways back to your question. I have had no spikes that I have been able to see in the testers. my LFS guy says i had a spike during the second week when two fish died in the same morning, but was fine when i tested the water. I figured I've just been luckly but being new to this I really am at a loss about it. but I started the tank on 2.16 and readings are from 3.29 thats six weeks. thanks again for your inout and keep it coming
