adding supplements to water/skimmer?

when adding stuff like essential element or chromomax, or whatever phytoplankton food, do u guys turn your skimmers off?? am i supposed to or just leave it on.

I just cut the air flow off when I feed my tank.That way my skimmer still produces water flow but doesn,t take away any of the nutrition from the small feather dusters and filter feeders that live on my rock. Just open the venturi back up after an hour or so.

Mine is part of my sump so I just unplug the pump for an hour or so.
