I got my tank together and i have 30lbs. cured live rock and my readings are
ph: 8.1
nitrits: 0
nitrates: 0
amonia: 0
Should i add the piece of shrimp?

go for it, put it in there for like 2 days until you see an ammonia spike. I did it to mine and it helped jump start my cycle for sure, it does smell a little bad but it was a good plan. It doesnt hurt to try

do you have any live sand in there right now, cause my tank with live rock and live sand cycled in 2-3 weeks, and when i did a QT it took me about 5-6 weeks.

do it... just make sure stuff like pH, alk, don't get out of whack since you'll be so focused on watching NH3, NO2, and NO3.

i dunno i used one piece my ammonia spiked to 1ppm and then went down to .5 in like 2 days, i had a pretty quick cycle. I guess its all opinion but with lr and live sand you should be good shrimp or no shrimp

dont add the shrimp. the lr will cycle your tank. just wait, and keep testing your water.
+1

But if you don't see a cycle you may when you add the first big fish...
I like to see 20 nitrate drop to 0 tells me there is some bio-filtration.

I'm on my 2nd shrimp right now, never saw a jump in ammonia with the first one. I'm playing it safe, if it still doesnt jump, my LR is doing its job.

My shrimp is a tester. I should not get a jump in anything if my tank could handle it. I'd raher my fish not be the tester, JMO.
