I have a ~20 gallon fuge with LR, Chaeto, and 6.5" DSB, do I need a small powerhead to keep circulation up or is the normal flow good enough? Not sure with the Chaeto if the additional flow is a good idea.
Chaeto likes flow, but I've always been reluctant to add flow to the fuge with powerheads becuase I worry about the pods getting mashed up. They can easily get drawn into suction intakes - having to go through the main pump to get to the DT is bad enough, but a ph circulating in there could put them through again and again...
How much flow do you have now?
No way to truly measure. Return pump is rated at 1800gph; so I imagine that's about what is coming down to the sump. One overflow is feeding the fuge while the other is for the sump/skimmer. I had to ball valve the fuge feed as the flow was too much for the 1" bulkhead to drain to the sump given the location I drilled the fuge. Also, the 200 micron filter sock is a limiting factor in the feed as well.... so long story sets up to the original statement "I dunno". I'm not too worried regarding the pods as the PH in question is a Korilia Nano. Not as agressive as other "old school" PH. My concern is more the chaeto gloging the PH or the overflow return to the sump......
If your fuge has a 1" bulkhead, then you can move about 600gph through it, all things being equal.
I'd say that's more than enough for a 20g fuge. Even 400gph would be plenty.

I took the electric out board fishin prop of my 10' bass boat and use it for extry water motion. Alltho I have been havin troubles with my fish getting chewed up in it. I tried putting netting around the prop but it doesnt stay on to good when its fired up. Makes a big mess.
Come to think of it maybe it wasnt a very good idea. Never mind dont try it.
