If you go and get your water checked see what tests they have available and get some Salifert Ca, Alk, and Mg tests if you can. Then you can test your own water...plus they are very accurate.
When you start measuring your Ca and Alk levels you will want them balanced...do a seach here for Kip's Ca/Alk balancing table and you will find the numbers to shoot for.
Also, B-ionic (made be ESV) is a Very good supplement to keep Ca and Alk balanced. It is pretty easy to use. You just test and find out what you Ca and Alk levels are at, compare that to Kips table, and then you know what to shoot for and can figure out how much of the additives to add. Plus the bottles come with nice measureing cups (not the irritating # of drops...well, irritating to me).
