Quick question. If I use B-Ionic or another 2 part dosing system for calc and alk, do I still need to use some kind of buffer(the powder stuff) to maintain the pH or will using the 2 part system take care of calc, alk, and pH? Thanks.

I use a two part buffer myself. And have had no problems with either my calcium 450, my alk. 3.5 or my ph 8.3. And the only other additives I use are strontium and iodine.

i don't even use a buffer i just dose my tank with cal, strontium, and a few other elements. i've never had any problems with my alk, cal, or ph. in fact today when i tested my water my ph was 8.3 my alk was 3.5 and my cal was 425.

I think its important to maintain stable calcium/alkalinity/ph...I use primarily reef builder & reef advantage to build calcium & alkalinity levels to 400-450 ppm for calcium and 2.8-3.5 meg/l alkalinity...ph stays stable around 8.0 - 8.3 thru the day.I also dose about 1/2 gal of kalk nightly ... helps to maintain these levels plus can precipitate phosphates out of the system. I do add a small amount of sea chems reef buffer normally on Sunday morning...reputed to help maintain ph @ 8.3.....can't prove it actually helps mine but the levels have been stable for a decent length of time and alls well........*_^
