I have a 175 Reef tank. I am adding 3 tablespoons (45 ml) of each C Balance and 15 ml of Iodine every day. The tank has been established for over a year, but my hard corals (brains, lobphilias) aren't doing well. Any suggestions as to what supplements I should use or should I increase or decrease my dosage?

First off I think that 15ml of iodine a day is a little excessive, not to mention that iodione is probably the easiest thing to overdose resulting in detriments to you tank. This may be the cause that your corals aren't doing as well. As far as calcium and alk I use B-ionic, which I think is similar to C balance, and I also drip kalkwasser. Magnessium and strontium are good things to add also. Just keep in mind it is always a good idea to test for things before you add stuff to your tank. Also, what kind of lighting do you have and what are the other water peramiters like?

I'm guessing you meant 1.5 ml of iodine each day, but even that seems excessive to me.
What form of iodine/iodide are you adding ?
I would consider 15 ml per WEEK of some of the iodine supplements like Kent or others on the market to be more reasonable in a heavy softie 175 reef tank.
If you are actually adding 15ml each day - I'd imagine you've exceeded a toxic level of iodine/iodide in your tank - and the corals are shutting down.
They make idoine test kits - although I've read where they can be sort of flakey.
I add 5 drops a week to my 75 reef tank - if that - but we all do things differently.
I'd think about doing some rather large and frequent water changes soon - and stop adding so much iodine.

I add 2.5ml of iodine once a week to my tank, have for a long time, my corals seem to do better with it.
