I currently have an empty 10 gal tank that I am thinking about turning into a small saltwater for my desk. Will live sand and live rock be ok for filtratiion purposes? I don't plan on anything fancy, possibly a place to move my damsels.
I currently have a 46 bow FOWRL soon to be the start of a reef. anyway back to my question. will i be able to go without a protien skimmer? will i need a hob mechanical filter of some sort or will the lr and ls be sufficient? thanks for any advice

I would check into an aqua c remora skimmer they have a nano rated 5 to 25 gal. This is a great skimmer. What type of light are you going to be using?

I dont know what type of lighting you have. I think the skimmer will be a must. Anyone want to chime in about an additional filter? Running act carb will great.

what does the lighting have anything to do with filtration? I'd prop put 96 wattsof pc over it.

yes you will need some sort of mechanical filter (hob) and although i feel a skimmer is a necesity many people have great success with running a tank without the use of one.
