South Down if you can find it about 125 pounds would do good in a 55.... maybe seeded with some live sand from the LFS or purchased on-line. Since you have never done this before I would recommend getting a good book and browsing these forums for a bit, they are really helpful.

Where is a good place to get south down? also, from the forums i read here, i think dsb is the way to go,right?

lagatbezan,
first welcome to the board. Second IMO DSB is the way to go. Third, you can get SD from some HDs. You're in NY so there's a good chance you can find it. I'm in NJ, and found it fairly easily. Are you from any part of NY which is near NJ? If so I have about 2 bags (100lbs.) that I can sell you. Else, there are three HDs near me where you can get it. Good luck!

if i get the sand from hd, its not going to have any harmfull chemicals in it or anything? do i have to rinse it first or just put in the tank?
Also, how do you mix the salt with the water? i mean what is the best way of doing it?
Thanks everyone for your great help!
