The biggest help in sw is good live rock. Its amazing what the stuff does. I buy a new piece or 2 every other month or so just bc of the good stuff on it. Iam far from an expert, I prob have too many fish in my tank, I also prob over feed. But my tests and fish are perfect. This is w 80lbs of lr and a hob filter lol
I also always buy new live rock when I go to look at fish, even if I don't get fish, and especially if I do. I have found the pH is stable and it is currently all being dismantled (the artistic array of caves I'd been constructing) by the goby but I have been told 2lbs of live rock per gallon is ok......my question was how much weight can the tank support; I've seen them stacked to the top with rock but again don't want to test that out......Also, I read about "reactivating" old live rock.....a family member had a tank set up and its been empty for years but there is so much (now dead rock I would call it) that I have heard can be added to the tank and it will grow stuff and be useful....is this a myth? I'm looking at a few hundred dollars of dried up rock in their tank thinking "wow I want that" but if it won't be useful to the ecosystem I won't bother.....
