Aggressive vs. Community

For the second time in 2 years, I have lost a complete tank of fish due to power outage during a storm. The last setup I had was a community setup. (75gl) As a result of the last storm, I only have 4 damsels left. I have not added anything and I am trying to decide whether to switch to an aggressive setup. I have had aggressive before (lion fish, panther grouper, triggers) and enjoyed it thoroughly. I would love one big showpiece for my tank but I am afraid that I would get bored quickly with just one fish in the tank. Really would like to go with a lionfish again, but what would I be able to put in the tank along with it? Also, I tried to look for the fish list on "saltwaterfish.com" and did not see it? Am I overlooking it? You guys have good experience ordering online?

i to also have a 75 gallon my last set of fish where killed by an ick out break. it was a large snowflake, dogface, huma huma, and a volitan all fish did fine togather but the snowflake bullied the dogface and he got ick. so all fish died and all that is left is the snowflake. i also am trying to decide to go with the aggressive or the comunity? i love lions to but i also enjoy the tangs and angels so what are we to do. a plus to another aggressive is the fish are traditionally hardy!

NaH20, wondering if you are in the Raleigh area, those power outages sound familiar

Actually the power outages (both times) were due to tornadoes. Luckily there was no damage to my home; I just suffered the power going out for about 48 hours. As far as my dilemma goes, I too love to have large size fish in my tank since they seem to have so much personality. On the other hand, I do love the tangs and all the community fish and I think having a community tank with more (smaller) fish in it gives you constant movement and activity..................I'm really leaning toward the aggressive but again, I am at a loss as to what would really make a nice showcase of fish.

nah20- i was thinking of another aggressive to! i think a clown trigger would make an execellent show piece fish. im not shure what to put with it maybe a lion, panther gruoper, snow flake and a dogface puffer or somethin like that. true another community tank would have more movement but think about it A they are for the most part less hardy B the aggresive fish tend to have more personality and are more fun to keep. im like you i dont want to go spend another 200 bucks on fish and loose them all over a pore choice. i dont want to look back and go i wish i did an agressive. the fish i would keep in a community tank are the tangs and the angels and some clownfish. tangs get ick so easy i mean your water can be perfect and bam your 80 dollar naso is dead over a skirmish with another fish or something like that. so at this point im looking at another agressive.

My 75 aggressive consists of a gold striped soapfish, picasso trigger, and snowflake eel. Other good candidates for a 75 include wrasses, some hogfishes, hamlets, smaller lions, smaller triggers, eels, etc. Pick 3-4 fish depending on size and temprement. Bo

My 75 has a 22" snowflake , A butter hamlet , 4" blue lined trigger and a porky puffer. The hamlet and the trigger cruise the tank constantly, so there is always movement. The puffer tends to move up toward the surface when someone walks by(he thinks he is under fed.I think if he eats more than he does he is going to POP:) ) , but tends to hang out on the bottom . Had a large 6" fuzzy dwarf lion in there as well. The trigger lunched him. Hence i believe that triggers and lions should not be mixed. there spines just are to easy for the triggers to nip at.
As to what you put in your tank, OY .. i have probelms figuring that out my self :) If you keep lions you could add a zebra moray or a big SFE or chain-link. As well as a hogfish or maybe a smaller hamlet . Just for a little movement.
