agressive chromis

ok my chromis has been in my 75 gallon for a while by his self, and I'm wondering if it was him that mybe killed my new chromis I added???
when I first added him I noticed the chromis that had been in there for a while charging him but I thought nothing of it, and thought they were just trying to establish dominance
a few days later I noticed that a lot of scales were missing off of the fish, and thought that maybe the fish had some kind of disease, which is why I do plan on getting a hospital tank soon, maybe today.
but any way now the new chromis is missing in action and the old chromis has a devilish smerk on his face.
I thought chromis were peace ful, or does that only apply when they are in big numbers???
I may get 2 more chromis to day a little bigger than the 1 in there right now.
thanks for any in put ladies and gents

i think the best thing to do is try to re-arange your rock work to mix up the chromis's territory when you put in new fish. then just keep an eye on him and if he is pullin rambo on you then bring him back to the store

If you're going to have multiple chromis it's best to add them all at once. The one you have now is well established and will probably feel threatened by new additions. I'd look into some different fish.

these fish are schoolers and need to be kept this way. having a lone chromis will cause it to act strangely. it is not uncommon for a lone chromis to become aggressive. as said, adding a bunch at once would have been better.

I have one green chromis in my tank, and he's doing well. You're right in that they are schooling fish, but it's quite possible to keep them on their own.

I've never seen my green chromis bother any inverts. There's always a chance with any fish that they'll bully new fish, but in my experience chromis aren't mean enough to cause any serious damage to other fish (except for maybe other chromis).

chromis are the most peaceful of the damsel fish family. which means they are not really that peaceful. I really liked a school of green chromis I had years ago, but I couldnt put any other fish in there. Ive heard many stories similar to mine. So now I avoid anything anywhere near the damsel family.
But the main thing is, as stated above when adding them, add them at the same time.

now i find out, aint that just how it goes
never thought oif it as them being the peacefulest of the damsel family meaning that there really not all that peace ful
thats good thinking
how ever i am gonna add a couple larger chromis to the tank just to get him tame sicne i cant catch the little bugger!!!

just remember, fish are animals and they have personalities. my experiences with chromis have been that they are aggressive, others maybe not so much. but sounds like your experiences are more like mine.
As for your next step. I hate to see 1 of your chromis being tormented. So you need to figure out something to do there. if i were you I would try to remove the chromis. Sometime down the line you will be happy you dont have any damsels in there. Other than the fact that they could live in a sewer, they are fish that cause mostly problems.

goby is always a good way to go, they are peaceful and easy.....but since you said you wanted something that swam around a lot, you might want to go another way. I am assuming this is a cycled tank? if so, and you have LR, I love my 6 line wrasse. it is peaceful and easy to take care of, it will eat anything and swims around my rock all day. i dont have corals, and since you said you do want some, you might check to see whether or not it is reef safe. other than that you will never regret having a 6 line.

true percs
lawn mower blenny
some kind of wrasse ( maybe a couple so i can have them possibly breed)

3 soldier hermits
7 snails ( any kind )
