AHHHHHH!!!! My tank is LEAKING!!!

I have my tank in an awkward spot, behind the front door. 2 days ago, the door hit the tank kind of hard. I didn't really think anything of it........Today it's leaking! Somewhere around the bottom rim. It's a 30 gallon, 36" long, and of course I couldn't find that tank anywhere. So I bought a 40 gallon breeder tank, same length so my t5 lighting will fit fine over it ( that was my main concern) But the tank is a bitw wider 18" wide instead of 12". Will that be a problem for my lights? It's a 4 39w bulbs, T5 setup. I think I like the new tank a bit better, the fish will have more swimming room! I'm buying new sand and I will be swapping everything tomorrow. I shouldn't have to wait to put the fish in the new tank right? I hope not, my tank has lost 4 gallons since this morning! I'm going for a bit coarser sand as well, the stuff I have is so fine it blows everywhere when my clown makes its bed! My plan is to put all the fish and rocks in totes, and keep the corals in a separate tote, and put all new water in the tank as well. I hope this isn't going to be a nightmare!!I'll try to take some pics! I guess you know how my Saturday will be spent!! I thought when I moved everything out of this tank, it would be into a mega tank in our new house......guess you can't plan LEAKS!! Any other advice???

I'm not so sure you should get rid of your sand and replace it. You will lose allot of good bacteria, and bristle worms. I would rinse the sand in saltwater and put it back.

That's the only place for the tank, if not it would be next to a woodstove! We're going to drill a stopper into the floor so the door can't do that again (we were supposed to do that months ago!) As for the sand, I hate it, so I thought this would be a good time to change it. I am going to put a cup or two of mine into the new stuff for the good bacteria. Well gotta get draining!

Tank Swap was a SUCCESS!!! What a project! I had buckets and totes everywhere! I can't imagine if it was a bigger tank. Everyone seems to be loveing the extra room. The corals are all looking great. I still have to rearrange my rocks and place the corals (they are on the sand now) I love the new sand too, I bought reef grade aragonite, It's amazing not to see it all over the rocks! I'll post some pics when everything is situated. Only 1 casualty.......My cat knocked my cell phone into a bucket of water!!! Not all the way broken, but it has a mind of its own now! Glad it was my phone and not any livestock that didn't make it!!

New Sand- Reef Grade Aragonite. Love it!

Side View- The fish love the extra space!

All lights on!

The tank is crystal clear....not sure why the pics make it look cloudy

what i would do if i was you is go to your local hardware store and buy a door stop. They have them that go right on the door pin and can be adjusted to stop at what ever distance you need them too. If nothing else i would get one of those good ole spring door stoppers and put it on your stand.

rthe only problem I see with putting the stopper on the stand is that when the door hit the stop, it would send a shock up to the tank. Kinda like smacking the glass. And possibly scaring the fish. I personally would mount it to the floor.

I would not put it on my stand or tank.....You can put anything you want in front of the stand...and let the door hit it.....heck you could use a shoe
BUT they also make decorative things like this

or

OR sonething like these that attache to the floor
