Aip

Not sure which forum this goes in, but as I have been researching some stuff for my tank, I realized that I have AIP. It is only growing on my togo(?) rock. It has been there since we started the tank. The lfs never said they were bad. It has now, almost, completely covered one of our coolest rocks and it is in one area of two other rocks. How do I get rid of it? Where did it come from? I read the hitchhikers thing. It was on the rock when we bought it, but didn't realize it was a bad thing. Is it really that bad?
Oh, just some FYI stuff.
55 gal tank
Up for about 2-2 1/2 months
4 fish in the tank right now (2 chromis, 1 dwarf lion, 1 yellow stripe maroon)
Thanks for you help.

They are very hard to get rid of but if you don't start they will take over your tank in a very short time.
Do not try to remove by physical force as they will expel gametes when they are under attack and will spread all over your tank also any pieces left on your rock will grow new ones.
Some methods people use are to inject kalk past into the centre of the body some also use vinegar or very hot water you should be able to buy a syringe at the drug store.
Another method is to use Joe's juice you get this at your LFS some say it works good others that its hit or miss.
Some say Peppermint shrimp work but once again its hit or miss it did not work for me. If they have not spread far you can remove the rock and soak it in fresh water for a few days it will kill everything on your rock but it will reseed its self once you place back in your tank and give it a couple of months but that is better than having the aptasia take over your tank.
Best of luck hope this helps.

I used peppermint shrimp. 3 of them in my 92 gallon tank got rid of all the aiptasia within a few weeks.
