Aiptasia anemones

I think I may have aiptasia.. But I have had it for about 3 months and its still just one anenome, its dark in color and looks exactly like the bottom left pic salty posted. Maybe it is a curly-q?? I dunno, I usually feed it 2-3 times a wk with brine. It came on my florida live rock.

Just throw a couple of Peppermint Shrimp in there, give them a couple days, and the Aiptasia will be gone. My tank was being overtaken by the stuff, so I bought 3 Peps, put them in, and now there's no sign of any Aiptasia anywhere. And the Shrimp are kinda cool to watch too.......

I keep hearing good and bad things about Peppermint Shrimp. I heard they will eat the Aiptasia but will also eat other coral that is good.

Nah totaly untrue. Peppermints wont harm anything. They will eat the AIPTASIA, AND CLEAN UP LEFT OVERS. i have never seen them touch anything else.

Peppermint shrimp are sometimes confused with camelback shrimp.

I had what everyone, including me, thought was an aiptasia, so I bought a pepermint shrimp. He never touched the darn thing! I later learned I had a baby Curly-Q. I still have both critters, and they never even look sideways at each other!

Do yourself a favor and do NOT buy peppermint shrimp OR camel back shrimp if you have corals. The pleasure of your tank quickly becomes stress as you constantly monitor the shrimp and freak out whenever you find them by your corals.
If you search around, there is a thread of one guy and me both trying to catch our shrimp on the same night. It was a major headache. I also had some Saron shrimp that were much harder to catch than the camel backs, so I just smooshed them and fed them to my anemones LOL.

most likely if ur rock comes from florida, then the aptasia is not one that is a pest. if u go to the site tampa bay salt water( i know im not supposed to mention other sites ) u can look at hitchhikers that come with there rock and see the aptasia they have, that they say is not a pest anemone.
