Aiptasia

Yesterday I got a bta, it was attached to a piece of rock so instead of trying to pry it off the lfs owner gave me the rock. When I got it home and into the tank I noticed 3 stalks of aiptasia on the rock. Can I just cut them off or do iI need to do something else. I have read some of the past posts to use Joe's Juice, inject it with ___ using a syringe, use boiling water. I don't have any J.J. or a syringe to inject itand I can't boil it because of the bta. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks.

when u go and try tp touch them they will more then likely retract. If you have pepermint shirmp they weill eat them. If not its not a big deal right noe since your BTA will end up moving and then you can take care of it then.

You cant just pull them out. They retract into holes in the rock. They spread quickly, so act now. Go get some joes juice and go that route. Works great for a small outbreak like you have.
Be careful with the bta and joes jucie. The JJ comes with a small syringe. Shake the bottle VERY well. Turn off powerheads and inject into the mouth of tha apt.
Boiling water works, but like you said, you dont have a syringe. If you go to a

, they have them there.
Maybe someone else has a better idea so you dont have to leave the house. Maybe the BTA will move anyway in the next day, and then you can just pull the rock out.

You can use kalkwasser powder, just mix it with a little water & use a syringe to inject them with, you have to do it fast before they retract all the way & usually you will have to do it a few times but it does work.

i have one thats like 3 12 inches or 4 inches.. i keep telling my mom to let me get rid of it but she likes it. (Im currently building a reef tank bc shes attracted to anything resembling an anemone) but this ones in the small 10 gal. it hasnt split or anythign so can i just keep it on the rock in the ten till the reefs done and then "Acidently" inject it with som JJ and tell her it died during transport?

ANy aipstasia I have ever wanted to get rid of was easily done by watching where it withdraws into, and use a small piece of styrofoam material and shove it in on top of the aipstasia, wedging it into the hole with a tooth pick etc. It will smother it in no time at all........but fastest and easiest is to inject it with a hypodermic syringe and a tiny needle. Fill the syringe with lemon juice extract and iinject the stalk or if it withdraws just stick needle into the hole and inject it that way. Only takes a drop and one drop should certainly not upset water parameters. Or get a peppermint shrimp and hope it likes to eat the stuff.....

I agree, it's the perfect meal for the copperband. It's a nice looking fish that'll keep those little buggers in check. Still, there's something satisfying about injecting them with kalk-milk.

I also read that if you take Pickling lime and water mix it, (it will be thick) and you use a syringe and squirt it right up against it, it should get some to attach to the aipstasia and die in a few hours, i know of someone that used that combo and killed as many as 20 at a time with no affects to the inverts of fish, basiclly its a calcium mix of sorts, just my 2 cents

i was just told at the lfs that white vinegar will do it. he even showed me how to do it since someone sold them a frag with one on it. it shriveled up as soon as he injected it.
