Aiptasia?

After viewing lionfishlair.com I figured out that this fast growing nuisance actually does have a name.Aiptasia, mojano. He shows the one that's brown.I also have it green in my tank. Are these two the one and same pest? What is the best way to rid my tank of these. Will the Aiptasia-x get rid of this variety?

Yes, also Joe's Juicy. If you want them peppermint shrimp will eat them (they may also attach some corals beware).

Problem solved, don't feed the shrimp and in time they will get rid of the pest. But once they are gone start feeding them or they will attack things. While feed fish just squirt some food in there direction they will do the rest. they learn fast and will get right into the mix and grab food from the fish.

Well haven't seen my pep shrimp since My husband brought them home.I was a bit concerned because they were small. I have a hawk and betta who feasted on my corral bandit some time back.I'll give it a few more days before I use the "juice"

Pep shrimp are very hit and miss, look into Berghia Nudibranches(small but mighty aptasia eating nudis) or even a aiptasia eating Filefish.

I'm not a 100% certain but I dont think that the pepermint shrimps go after the majano type anyway. Unless someone else has experienced it I'd love to hear about it. Glass anemones though is another story. I had a pep shrimp dessimate dozens within a few weeks.

the only problem with introducing a Berghia Nudibranches is that once the aptasia are gone the nudibranch will starve to death. Because that is all the eat.

Some peps will eat them some wont.
Just squirt some boiling water into the center disc and watch them melt away

I definitely agree on that point about them starving and they are not the cheapest but they do a great job. Ive paid it forward with them passing them on to someone that needs them. But yheybare not the easiest to find among rockwork.

After reading up on the berghia nudibranches it seems they only eat the glass anemone there's no mention of the majano type.Does anyone know from experience?

My pep died out after there was no aiptasia left in the tank. Dunno if this was the real reason for it's dissapearance or not but I did not have much in the tank that would have killed it.

I've not heard of that happening before.
Could have been the clown (not positive)...but I don't think it was from a lack of food source unless it just got addicted the the nems and didn't want to live with anything else? It survived for a little while (2 months?) after the aiptasia was no longer visible in the tank. It had went through a molt twice and I figured for the longest that's where it went but I just never saw it again. I wish I knew.
Unfortunately the aiptasia came back, slowly but surely and then came quick with a vengeance.
