I just picked up a coralife super skimmer for my 29 gallon tank. It seems to be missing the "air-inlet silencer with tubing" The lfs i bought it at is almost 2 hours away, so i dont want to run back there. I am new to skimmers and not totally sure what this thing is quite yet. is it something i can pick up by itself at any lfs, or home dept perhaps? thanks!

ok I have the same ammount of bubbles but it it is a good bit louder. you do have to have a .25 air hose ( if you lived closer I could give ya a few hundred feet) run it with just the hose and have the lfs to mail it to you

cool, thanks for checking that out for me. i will pick up some hose, and then wait on a silencer to show up from either the lfs or coralife.

Just take a empty aspirin or other plastic bottle with a flexible lid and poke two holes i it. Feed one end of tube into the one hole and see what happens. The air silencer is just a tube with a cap on one end and theother end has twonipples one of which the air ine attaches to and the other is open to atmosphere or you can add an additional piece of air line to it and vent it else where.
I use the black stealth air line from Petsmart on mine., Its standard 3/16 airline and most likely any silicone air line will work as well and stretch over

on venturi. The clear plastic type may be somewhat harder to get over venturi

I think it is more than that my silenser only has one hole

What do you mean by more than that?//??????? The silencers on all 5 of my coralife super skimmers are all the same. A simple grey pastic tube capped at one end with theoposite end having two nipples, on to which one end of the air tube form venturi on end of pump is placed, and the other

[hr]
is left open or you can attach a pice of tubing to it and extend it else were. I extended all mine to vent up under the tanks hood, and it virutally deadens any potential noise it makes.
The silencer has to have two holes one to attach air line to from venturi and theother hole from which air id pulled into the venturi from. If it oonly had one hole and the air line is attached to it, it would form a vaccuum..and not pull in any air into the venturi.

sorry I misunderstood I thought you were saying it had two on the top and a third one one the bottom

depending on tank and stand location, I would just go with out the silencer....I put a new air line on my ss 220 and started it up forgetting to put on silencer, and I have a million more air bubles and it works better than ever....although it always worked well ,now it dry skims and is easier to set....Don,t ask me why, it just does. And it is not very loud at all. But my tank is behind a wall so that may make a difference

cool, i'll give it a shot without the silencer first, and see how that goes. If not, i will try the homemade job. I will let you know how it turns out.

if using the asprin bottle run the line from the skimmer through the lid of the bottle to about 1/2" from the bottom of the bottle add one or two cotton balls and presto chango instant silencer (I had to do this when I dropped my silencer into my tank and clogged it all up) it works great, and you can change the cotton balls out regularly as they eventually get clogged with dust.
By the way I love my super skimmer also
