Air line in a SH tank.

Good afternoon all. As I sit here pondering if i will ever get my tank stable. and having consumed myself the vodka I purchased for my nitrate removal. I need something meaniful to be doing.

I have heard you mention that a SH tank will require an airline. I understand that i should not use an airstone but an air line. Just a few questions. I guess you are recommending back flow prevention ( check valves) are you also using a valve to regulate flow ? I have a whisper 40, and I that may be too much ??? What range of flow do you think is best? from10 bubblesa second, to wide open let the water surface look like its boiling?
It has also been mentioned that you want this tube as far away from the filter inlet as possible, Is that what you are recommending?
How far off the substrate is the bottom of your line?
I will set this up today, giving me something useful to do as I sit here watching my tank do what ever it is indeed doing
I sure do hope you can all read tyonese.
Thank you all
be safe
and God Bless

An Irishman walked out of a bar............................................It could happen

my next DIY project is going to be a chiller from a dorm fridge to keep both the SHs as well as my beer cold. i can build one for a whole lot cheaper than i can buy a chiller and it it woill have alot more uses.
Ok back to the original post; any info re: the air line would be nice

An open air line attached to ridgid air tubing is what I use. A good rate of bubbles, (there is no right or wrong answer). If you look at my last batch of pics, you can kinda see what I mean. That is in my juvi tank.
The air lines are to help with oxygen in our horse tanks.

I have it done. Thank you. I am the newbie here but with my work experience I can suggest this, be sure you have a check valve in your airline. ( back flow preventor) if not, and the line were to come off your pump you could siphon your whole tank out on the floor. this could also hapen if your pump were to fail.( depending on how it is made internally)
