Algae and Coralvue MH Bulbs

As many of you know, I am fighting hair algae. I am getting my water tested at the LFS this week. Also thinking that ambiant light from the windows might be a problem.
However, the tank has been in the same place since 6/02 so the outdoor light is a longshot.
The hair algae started around 12/03-1/04. At that point my MH bulbs were about 15-16 months old. I figured that was the problem.
I finally replaced the bulbs in the spring. I still had hair algae. I started using RO/DI and a fuge about a month ago. Still hair algae.
Other than that, there have been ZERO other changes to the tank.
When I originally switched to MH's from PC's in 9/02 and was using tap water I had NO problems.
Again, the only changes have been using the RODI, the fuge, and the new bulbs. Food is the same, location is the same, I do not supplement, nothing different.
Could the replacements MH's be the problem? The originals were Aqualine Bushkes. The new ones are Coralvue which are $30 cheaper than most other brands. Did I get what I paid for? Has anyone else had algae problems since switching to Coralvues? Could I have just gotten a bad bulb or two? One side of the tank does have worse hair algae than the other.
Thanks for reading and helping. Just going through the process of elimination to find the cause of my hair algae problem.

I think your on your way to getting rid of the hair. The bulbs are a nice color. I have a pair myself(well, one just died after 7 months:mad: )and have had no hair problems.
Once the hair starts don't expect it to go away overnight. RO/DI and the refuge will help alot. Just keep it up.
How much and how long do you get outside light? Curtains on the window?

No curtains on the window. Probably a few hours of light. But that has never changed, the tank has always been in the same spot. The hair really started when the original bulbs started to get old...about 15 months old. And the new bulbs didn't help. One side started to lose the hair and the other didn't. The side that didn't has the bulb that doesn't seem as white. Personally, I think the bulbs are the problem. There is a reason they are $30 less than most others. If something is too good to be true...
I am going back to the AB's which are what came in the light when I bought it.

I'm in Brooklyn...near the RI/MA borders.
Mine are 150W 10000K's.
I don't like them and think they are the cause of my algae, but they are only about 3-4 months old.
If I sell some of the other stuff I am selling and have the money for new AB's, I'd be willing to sell these if you wanted them.
