Algae grenn and brown?????

I just got a 180 gal tank for free from a friend who was deploying. It had already had some algae growing in the tank but after the move it really spread like mad. I checked the phosphates and nitrate levels but they seem to be normal. I brushed the algae off of the coral and placed it in a separate container with good water circulation and no light. I read this was the correct treatment. It is covering a large portion of the live sand. I have been cleaning the glass and filter parts and pieces everyday to try to prevent build up, but to little effect. What else can I do?

This is what came with the tank:
70 LBS live Sand
275 lbs of live rock
Aqualight Pro HQI/Compact Fluorescent/Lunar Light Fixture 72"
1 XP3 FilStar Canister Filter
1 XP4 FilStar Canister Filter
1 Portable Refractometer
1 Red Sea Aquarium Protein Skimmer Prizm Pro
4 Maxi Jet Power Heads Model 1200
1 Wavemaster Pro
1 Digital Coralife Aqualight Power Center
1 Coralife Aqualight Power Center

Do you have any fish....or cuc (clean up crew) in the tank

you probably stirred some stuff up too.....have you done any water changes yet?

i don't no how long it has been since the move, but it sounds like it is re-cycling itself from the move. stay away from water changes because you would be feeding the source,,, don't run the hqi and use lighting at a minimum now . keep harvesting out the way you have been and if you can get your hands on a couple of the large turbos they will really help. i used to sell them and they where about 2-3 inches in diameter and they could clean a tank in days.Mexican turbos. don't use any miracle drugs. saltwater is all about patience.
