algae on glass?

Where the snails go, they tend to leave a trail, almost as if they are either not eating all the algae, or pooping on the glass. i have a mag float cleaner, but it only tends to get half of the spots off the glass. plus, i have green smears that the mag float doesn't even touch. when i scrape, i do get an algae smell, and the pods also seem to like this stuff. is it just algae and how do i get it off if the mag float doesn't get it all?

Run you mag float at least every other day all over the glass. If you let the algae grow it wil become much harder to remove and then you'll start getting coraline growth which is a reall pain to get off. Snails help but leave little "clean" trails not really all the glass.

So it seems to me someone needs to invent a new type of snail that doe snot leave trails, but completely takes care of eating all kinds of algae off the tank glass... Funny no one has invented such a critter by now.....Heck when you listen to all the infamous claims made about freshwater critters like cat fish, algae eaters, clown loaches and plecos, you would have thought it owuld have had some influence on saltwater critters by now ! yea right. The one lfs here was telling some folks that the turbo snails just about eliminate the need to worry about algae and shrimp and hermits and start fish handle all detrius...then with a skimmer, and ATO, rodi, algae eating fish......an automaatic feeder, live rocks for filtration, you have nothing to worry about other than setting there and watch your fish since its all self sufficieint.......and automated. Yea right! Algae and snail trails are normal for a SW tank.
