How ofter do most peole clean the inside of the glass of there tank to clean off algae? I keep getting it pretty fast. It is a brown not green on my glass. Is this a sign of anything? I have a 55 gal. tank with 60# LS, 20# LR plan on getting more. It has been up for almost 3 months. I have not fish yet just some inverts.
At last test
Ammonia 0
ph 8.2
nitrits 0
nitrates 0
salinity 1.023
temp. 80
I have my lights on for 10 hours a day also.
The algae is not that bad but I have to clean it off the front maybe every other day to keep it looking good.
Thank You

Every other day sounds about normal...
If I let mine go much more than that it becomes a bit more of a job than I like...
What are you using to do this??? If you don't already have one,try looking for a good powerfull algae magnet to make the job quicker and easier...

I agree...if you let it build up it turns to a hard green algae that will require a scraper to remove it.

Hey,
Might be time to get about a half dozen Turbo snails too!:D
(Depends what kind of fish you are planning on getting in case the snails would become escargot.)

I have a mag float to clean. So it really is not bad at all. I was just woundering it this was about normal.
Does anyone bother to clean the back glass? I mean with the LR and all it sems to be a pain. I dont have my LR up to the back of the glass but it is close. It still makes it hard to get back there. I dont really clean it now but maybe a little bit. Should I just let it go?

Mine about once a week. I use a magnetic cleaner. I only do the sides and front. I generaly let snails work on the back.

I do the sides and front with the magfloat every other day or so and scrape the tough spots with a scraper when I do tank maintenance every month or so. I leave the back to grow naturally for the snails to graze on and for the looks of it.
