algae problem question

My ro/di filters went bad and hence I now have a very very bad green hair algae bloom int my reef tank. I tried pulling this crap off my rocks but it is to slippery and there is way to much. So this is what I'm going to do. I moved most of my corals to a smaller tank. I can't move some of them because they are attatched to rocks and stuff. Now I'm running new ro/di water with my new filters. I'm gonna do a large water change in the next day or so. I'm cutting my lights completly now. I have only been running 50% for the last week and no improvement. How long can I leave the lights out before my inverts go crazy and die?

Not sure how long you can go without your lights... but I would suggest you get a brush and start scrubbing your rock.
That was the only way I was able to get it knocked back enough that my critters could do their work.
IMO.

do you have a cleanup crew? if so what? Mexican turbo snails do great so do most other snails the turbo are my favorite for eating hair algae.
