the excess algae is due to too many nutrients in the water (nitrates, phosphates, ect). Adding clean up crew to feed off it is not the whole answer to the problem. Test for both Nitrates and Phosphates. There are several things you can do to reduce the nitrates and phosphates in your tank (reduce feeding, reduce bioload, add a DSB, add refugium, change filtration, ect) to know what your problem is please answer the following questions.
Do you test for Nitrates and Phosphates, if so what are the results
what size tank do you have.
What is the filtration
What fish are in the tank
What is your feeding schedule and what food do you feed them.
how often do you do water changes
