Algae Question

I have a 55g FOWLR tank that has a algae problem. Theres algae growing on the rock and the power heads, not on the sand or glass, it looks like a redish felt. I can brush or blow it off. It comes back the next day. Ive lost most of my coraline also. I do 5gal water changes every 10-14 days and use Reef Crystals salt. Ive tested the water and its been at normal levels. I dont have many snails or crabs. The few fish I have seem ok. This tank is over 2yrs old. Any Ideas?

It may go away on is own, or some phosphate may need to be removed. If you have a shallow sand bed this may be a sine that it is getting clogged with waste.

Here is where your issues are. You are not cleaning the tank close to enough, and you do not have the proper clean-up crew to do it either. If you fix these two things, I think you will see a big improvement with the algae.

I'm sure a bigger clean up crew would help, I do clean the tank at least 2 times a week with a mag float and a tooth brush and a baster

I know I need a larger clean-up crew. The tank gets cleaned 2 times a week with a mag float, tooth brush and a baster

That being true you are still not getting the detritus from the sand and rocks out of the tank. Hence the need for a good CUC to get in there and eat this stuff up!

Ive added 25 assorted snails they have cleaned up the power heads and working on the rock, but the sand is still a mess do I add more?

When you drop in some meaty frozen food they should come out from the sand bed like the living dead. If not then you have a bunch of dead Nassarius.

I see no evidence of any nassarius snail in my tank. The other snails are doing a great job on the rock and power heads. I guess I need more.
