Algae?

Im starting to get some green hair algae in my tank on my live rocks and i heard there was a paricular snail thats good at eating it up. Anybody know what kind of snail or anything else i can do do help eradicate this. I have a lawnmower bleeny so he takes care of the small stuff but not this hair algae.

are you using tap water??? This is a tiger cowry can clear very large patches of hair algae overnite. Second is phosban used to contol phosphates which is causing your algae outbreak. Use only RODI water and not tap.

Thanks for the reply. I have only used RO water in my tank. I will stop by my lfs today and see if i can get some of that phos ban. I checked all my levels yesterday when i did my water change and all where good and within limits. i didnt check phosphates so maybe a test for that too will help me control it. What can cause this? I havent had any problems with algae until just recently. I dont feed flakes i only feed frozen. Thanks for the input again.

overfeeding and also old lighting can cause algae to bloom as well as getting behind on water changes. How long are your lights on?

i leave my lights on for about 12 hours i turn them on when i leave for work and turn them off when i get home from work. I was thinking of getting a timer for the lights because i think there on to long. Could that be some of the culprit? Lights on to much? My bulbs are only maybe 2 months old if that so i think the bulbs are fine.

get a timer and cut your lighting back to 8hrs on. That will help tremendously
