The other thing to look at is where the tank is located. Is there any direct sunlight comming from some windows nearby. One side of my tank had direct light comming on it and it always has more than the others. You have probably already thought of it, but just thought I would mention it.

Snails should take care of the green algae on the glass. Did you buy a Tap Water Pufifier?

would suggest a clean up crew(this site sells gr8 packages) they should help....also make sure water paramiters are in order(especially phosphate).....lighting could be a issue also........if you're using tap water this may cotribute to the algae....but algae in the tank is part of the package
as far as 5 gal for 3 bucks....I pay that for 15 gal...check around maybe you'll find a cheaper source

I too now have problems with green glass algae. This has started ever since I made the switch from NO in my 30 gallon to Metal Halide. I guess I should have expected it. I will curing another 20 lbs of LR to hopefullly help bring Nitrites down to zero. Perhaps more current could help as well. I use RODI always. The good news is coralline is starting to spread hopefully in the next months it will outcompete the green stuff.
