:happyfish Ya, definately. That is usually a sign you are close to being done cycling. You should probably check your levels, you might be close. Just don't jump the gun though. You could still have spikes of nitrites after cycled. Good luck, ali

The nitrates that are made from cycling will stimulate algae growth.
Many people keep their tank lights off during cycling to decrease this algae overgrowth.

:happyfish What elf said about turning off the lights is debatable, so I would just check into what's right for you, and then make a decision. I personally think you should leave the lights on, because it's more natural, and with bacteria, and whatnot, I think it's better to leave them on. That's just my opinion.

Hiya,
Instead of starting this thread anew, thought I'd jump in with a question.
If I choose to leave my lights on to help stimulate my LR, how many hours should I do so? This will be a new set up that hasn't cycled yet.
