Can someone tell me what this green spike thing growing on my live rock is? Do I want this?
Also, is the red looking stuff algae (not the Coralline) and if so, what kind and what will eat it?
125 Gallon Tank
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 6.25
Phosphate - .5 just started running PHOSBAN in a reactor.
I have had the tank up one month, but bought it off a guy who had it up for several years. Toward the end he lost interest in the hobby and did not do much maintenance.
I use RO/DI water for evaporation and water changes.
Been running new Coralife 50/50 bulbs for the month I had the tank.
Thanks.

That spiked stuff looks like a macro algae, the red stuff looks like cynobacteria. is the tank near a window??? You need to get your trates down to zero. Tell me about your tank a little more, substrate, filter, PH, etc........

The tank is not near a window. I have 100 lbs. of live rock and the red stuff was present on the rock when I bought it. Currently the tank is bare bottom, but I am thinking of adding either a remote DSB or a DSB to the display. I have a wet/dry filter with bio balls. I have a huge protein skimmer. It is 4 feet tall, but I dont know the brand. Ph goes between 8.29 and 8.33 (I have an Octopus controller and monitor it).
I have a NatruReef denitrator, but don't have it hooked up since I am missing the solutions needed. I have read these may be more trouble than they are worth anyway.
