Alk Overdose hurt fish???

[hr]
My roommate tried to help me tonight and dosed my tank around an hour after I already did it. Test kit is showing it at 11.2dkh. The water is getting cloudy. Will this cause harm to my fish? :help: :help:

I"m afraid so.....what is the pH reading? I would to a major water change. Do you have well mixed water ready to go?

Beth--do you really think that's a high enough dKH to be causing a precip. event? I realize that's somewhat on the high side, but I wanna say I've read somewhere that about 12 dKH is the absolute maximum, with an optimal 9 to 10. Does this sound correct?
Also, I was under the impression that inverts are the first ones affected by a high alkalinity. Are there any signs of invert loss in your tank Scccer4life?
So if your usual dosage was only doubled once and your alk is that high, what do you maintain it at--and are you only dosing once in a while with large amounts of buffer?
Like Beth said, I'd mix up some saltwater, test the PH, and do water changes as needed.
Hope this helps
