alkalinity

hey i just have two simple questions. first, what is a good alkalinity level to have. second, how can i test my waters alkalinity? do they make test kits for it? whoops that was 3 questions. :D thanks for the help :cheer:

bump.........does anyone know anything about alkalinity?? just a quick word would really help me out.

Hi! There are test kits out there, and it really helps to know where your levels are at. Alkalinity reads tell you the amount of carbonates, or buffering capacity in your water. Personally, I try to keep mine around 3.5-4.0 meq/L, but I am unsure what the "perfect" level is. Hoep that helps some. :)

In my opinion the perfect level depends on your Calcium level.
I'd suggest keeping it above 2.5Meq/L and below 4.0Meq/L with normal Calcium levels.

sounds good, thanks for the advice. i guess i will go try and find some test kits so i can keep it aroun 3.0-4.0 thanks again, you guys rock :yes:
