If your worried about a break in, you could just surround your house with a minefield.

Yeah, I've been welding for 3 years. ASME certified master welder.....I even had to teach my husband how to TIG because he didn't even know how....but he's still not as good as me. lol Too bad we don't live closer, I'd teach you how.

I graduated from Tulsa Welding School....but the tech schools do offer courses on it. It's a great field to get into and you can make good money doing it too.

The good thing about welding, though, is that you learn how to control it and if you have a very good instructor you won't have too many burns. lol I can't promise that you'll never get one. Actually, I have a lot of scars but the results with the metal at the end outweigh the injuries. Not to mention the money. lol I love it. I wouldn't do anything else. I was born to be a welder. All the guys in my family are welders....I'm the only woman. Besides, the arc from the rod is localized to what you strike it to once you learn how to do it. Striking an arc is an art in itself. You can strike one but keeping it is the finer tuning. lol Not to mention, you have three different welding options: stick, MIG and TIG. Stick is oldschool....you have rods and a line. MIG is wirefed through the gun...point and weld. TIG...now that's a find art. It's a balancing act between two hands and a foot. Feed wire with one hand and control the gun with the other. Try not to

up the ceramic cup and the tip. And balance the amount of gas coming out with your foot to keep the arc from being too hot. I love it all!

wow. yes, you have confirmed everything i've been reading. it's a LOT more complicated than i thought it was. wow. let me ask you a specific question though... if you don't mind... i'm having a lot of trouble with my hands lately; i have carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands and i'm currently in physical therapy for some pretty serious soft-tissue damage i did to my right hand (my dominant hand); so things like pushing heavy buttons, pulling hard triggers or holding anything down with my fingers while having to move something else with my thumb (think a retractable dog leash or a joystick) is excruciatingly painful and causes more damage. ....am I correct in my understanding of the welding equipment to say that it would require me to do all of these things with my fingers?

Is the carpal tunnel in both hands really bad?? If your left hand isn't too bad you could learn to weld MIG and stick with your left. I'm a lefty personally. But yes, you do have to have a little strength to be able to put a rod into a new lead. But you're not holding it down too long. Putting a rod in takes less than 10 seconds. And MIG, you push a button and hold it down to run a bead.
