Ok this thread is for myself, and others new to this forum, and those who never felt comfortable asking if they didn't know. Could I please get someone to cover the abbreviations Many I get, but would love to clear up the majority of them in one swoop.
ie:
Paly
Ric
LPS
SPS
HOB
LFS
IMO. . .
you get the idea .
Big thanx to whom ever takes the time to do this.

Yep, these have been around for quite some time. They are also listed in lion_crazz's tips for new hobbiest. BTW (by the way) never be afraid to ask anything. We are here to answer questions. Something may seem "dumb" to you, but someone else may want to know as well. No question is undeserving of an answer

Don't think ric is on there
Its a Ricordea coral, either Ricordea Florida or Ricordea Yuma... a mushroom coral, very pretty!
A paly is a type of Zoanthidae (or zoa as we tend to call them) and the name paly comes from when we try to get a little more specific. As for how to tell the specific types apart. Most people will tell you a paly is larger (and may very well be most of the time) then a Zoa but that is a common misconception. A Palythoa takes fine grit into their stalks/mats so if the stalk/mat appears to have any grit on it it is most likely a paly, if its smooth it is most likely a Zoa.
All Zoas should have (I believe) a white stripping underneath the polyp and of course the stalk should appear smooth.

LOL...I went thru the same thing when I got back into the hobby...
Paly = Palythoa
Ric = Ricordia
LPS = Large Polyp Stony
SPS = Small Polyp Stony
HOB = Hang on Back - refers to a filter that hangs on the back of the tank
LFS = Local Fish Store
IMO = In my opinion - MHO = My humble opinion
Hope this helps
