how many lbs. did u get..seems to me $100 for all that is not to bad....usually at a lfs $100 only gets u 25lbs...looks like u got over 50lbs..you would have the option of hand picking ur own lr at a lfs...is that crush coral u have for ur sand bed..

you get liverock for $4 locally? I got 13lbs for $100 for my nano but Its quality rock ($6.99/lb unless you buy over 25lbs then its $5.99/lb. $4.99 over 50lbs and then there are some places selling rock for $10/lb. they can go to you know where). these days even online its hard to get quality rock for $4/lb.
As for that rock I wouldn't use it. If I did I would cook it or nuke it in bleach making it dead base rock. theres plenty of rock there for the money if it were in good shape but rock in bad condition loses ALL its value IMO.

Yea, it seems like a lot to me, pound for pound, but the quality is what's questionable.
I've never seen LR for $4 /lb, usually 6-10$/lb.
But STAN, why nuke it? what could be so detrimental to the tank in the LR? It was from an established (maybe not well established) tank. Are you worried about bad hitchikers? I'm assuming if it was in some1's tank, it can't be TOOO bad.
But, then again, it is covered w/ aiptasia. IDK.

the aiptasia IS the reason I'd nuke it. there's some undesirable algae too. I just couldn't put in rock knowingly having some nuisance issues before hand. seems like a headache I could prevent by just making it base rock. I'm not really fascinated by hitch hikers anymore and new bacteria will establish itself over time so sure its a set back but I'd still prefer it to knowingly putting aipatasia in my tank.
505titan I dont think the rock is unsalvagable if you dont nuke or cook it, its just going to be a good while before it reaps the value of the money spent. aiptasia and the algae are tuff to fight in what seems to be a newly set up tank like yours (judging by the massive diatom outbreak). with a new set up algae gets worse before it gets better(doesn't actually look that bad NOW) and you will have to be vigilent zapping the aiptasia since they'll thrive in those conditions. 9 months down the road if your doing good maintanence and dont overstock those issues will be much easier to deal with and much less of a headache to irraticate. In the next 6 months or more though there is a good chance the rock is going to look worse than it is now. even with lots of water changes theres probably some phosphates in the rock that need to be utilized before it starts to clear up. I've had an aiptasia head here and there before but the likelyness of it spreading or becoming an issue on a low nutrient established tank is about 1000 less likely than a new set up like yours. also looks like you need to add a good clean up crew ASAP to start clearing those diatoms. throw in the works: 2 or 3 mexicans (algae garbage cleaners), about 15 of astrea or trochus (rock diatoms) and about 15 cerith (diatoms off rock and the crushed corals and all purpose cleaners). Cant hurt to add some peppermint shrimp to see if they'll work on the aiptasia. I dont use hermits but you can if you like.
