Almost lost my LTA to the filter

My beautiful LTA got sucked into the filter intake today. The foot was stretched 5 inches and all the tentacles but two were in the filter. He seems to be recovering slowly but the clown was pulling off some of his frayed tentacles. I hope he pulls through. Here he is in better days:

You need to put a sponge or mesh net over the intake. I had that happen to my lta about 9 months ago, it got sucked into my powerhead. Now i have a Aqua Clear sponge on the powerhead ---problem solved. As long as it wasn't damaged too bad, it should come back. Mine was in real bad shape but after 9 months its back to its original size. good luck

I'll get that tomorrow. I think he'll be ok. He is starting to re-expand already. I was worried when the clown started to pull tentacles off of him but he looks like he'll be back to his old self in a few days.

Good to hear that its expanding. It took mine a little over a week to show signs of improving. After 45 mins trying to get him out of the powerhead , i put him on a rock. About 20 mins later he was stuck to the rock so i knew he was a fighter.. Good luck

Other than a few mangled tentacle tips, he is back to his old self. Fully expanding and taking in the clown. One possible casualty is my signal goby. I have a feeling the clown fed it to the LTA as a kind of "chicken soup" for the injured. Nobody ever bothered the goby as he happily sifted sand before, then the day after the LTA got hurt, he turned up MIA.

Its always difficult to ID from pics, but I am 95% certain that that is not an LTA (M.doreensis) but its an E.quadricolor (AKA BTA)

I don't think so. His tentacles get to be about 6" in length. He looks like the other LTA's the lfs sells. Normally he is more "scattered", for lack of a better word, than he is in this picture. Tentacles going in every direction. I just caught him in a more ordered pose.

Looks like a lta to me too. Although I can't see the base real good, mine goes from dk orange to lt orange to tan with white dots just before the tentacles start. Its about 7" fully expanded my other one is about 5"wide.
By the way hows yours doin after the intake problem???

Oh, OK. Thanks for confirming. Its hard to see the verrucae that all LTAs (M.doreensis) have, and I have never seen a happy LTA that was perched on the rock and not with its foot burried in the sand.
FWIW, many/most of the E.quads (BTA) lose their bubble tips and have elongated tentacles in captivity.

I never knew that about a bta loosing their bubble tips in captivity. good to know.
My bigger lta is in the sand but my smaller one is on a rock.

Other than a couple of real short tentacles, he seems fine.

I know I am getting a bit older, and I guess that my eyes are going. I cant see the verrucae in that pic. Are the verrucae running mostly in horizontal rows?
Rael, I am glad to hear that the anemone is doing well. Can you confirm the verrucae for this old man?
