i now have the tank set up and in the process of filling

the stand is nothing special but it will hold a house... i will build a good one when we move into a house (i live in apt now)...
a couple questions...
how far under the water line should the returns run in the tank??? (using a mag 18 flow rate at head should be about 900gph)
can i use a HOB filter in the sump to run carbon??? the retrun hoses are going to have socks on them to filter the water on the return so it wont be running though anything else on the way into the sump...
im sure there is more but i have to catch the bus for class... i know the pics aren't that great but what do you think...

tank is 4'X3'X18"high... i will be putting the lights above the rock wall when i get it in for the corals and leave a lot of the sand bed exposed... this will allow more room for the tangs i want (i know its not a 6' tank but will have more open space for the tangs to swim than most 6' tanks)...
any idea on the depth of the return pipes????
this will also allow for me to add MH if i decide to later... didnt have the money right now for them so went with the 6 bulb t5 fixture with individual reflectors...

Will you have anti-siphon holes in the return lines? If so then it doesn't matter how deep into the tank they are. If you have no anti-siphon holes then the returns need to be as shallow as possible without splashing or creating a vortex.
I'm not getting a feel for what the overflow looks like.
Have you looked at using black PVC for the plumbing that's inside the tank?
