I had mine for a year or so and it did fine in definately less than perfect water conditions. It quickly died when I changed my tank from a 15g to a 24g. All the other corals did much better but this one only lasted a few days.

Mine is gorgeous.going on it's second year. I think the key is feeding them, good flow, High lighting, and a healthy specimen to begin with..ie:no recession.Good luck.

I personally have no expirience with them, but have seen many posts concerning them. Do a search for them, theres a lot of info on 'em.

I bought this pink goniopora for $20. LPS usually doesn't carry em because of the low survival rate and so when they do they are cheap (which is appropriate anyway since they cost next to nothing for retailers. You'll see then online for $100 when they only cost about $15-20 for retailers). I figured well its never going back to the ocean anyway so what the hell, at least I have read a great deal about them. One thing I learned is there are about 20 species (more or less) of Gorniopora (not sure how many of Alveopora) and not all have the same requirements. Some species require such feeding that if two days are skipped noticeable polyp retraction is noted while others dont need nearly the requirements. Here's a good article on the different species of Goniopora if the link is legal (If it is you can email for it klassic_liven at yahoo.com) http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2005/10/aafeature2 I havent really looked into Alveopora but for the 12 tenticles per polyp instead of 24, less aggression and less likelyhood to take meaty food they should be simular.

flowerpot or daisy coral are just a common name for both. If you count the tenticles around the alveopora polyps there will be 12, Goniopora there will be 24. Other than that they are pretty simular.
what do I feed mine. In a word EVERYTHING. since I dont know what works and what doesn't I alternate phyto and zoo plankton. Soon hope to aquire some DT oyster egg larvae or any other alternative meaty foods to try. I did feed my corals twice a week and fish twice a week(on different days) but I've added an extra day to coral feeding and am a little more generous with the zoo/phyto plankton then I was before. Changed water changing from once every 3weeks to 5 gallons weekly in an attempt to counter the additional feeding.
