Am I doing something right? Or wrong?

My lr is doing weird things. First, I don't know if I'm losing coralline, or gaining it. Does it start out very bright, almost flourescent, and then get darker? Or is something eating off the light showing the dark beneath? Because I can't tell. Also, What happens if I leave the light on too long? I'm running about 12-14 hours per day, but I have almost NO light, anyway. Problems with that? Now for the last thing. The last couple of nights, early in the evening, I have noticed that things that usually don't come out when the lights are on are coming out. I saw a bristle worm, a new but very tiny feather duster, or something similar, clams that I never even knew were alive, pods, the big ones, not the little ones you see all the time, and some weird thing that opens like a door, and has something like big eyelashes coming out of it. And they are red. 2 snails that I had no idea were there, one is very tiny and conical, the other is more round, and striped like an umbrella. Anyway, if I'm doing something wrong, I need to know. I haven't been feeding my tank but about once a week, and then only a tiny tiny bit, because I have no fish. Am I starving all these creatures, and they have resorted to coming out in the daytime? Also, if you have an id for any of the weird thing above, I'd be grateful. They aren't on the hitchiker faq.
Thanks

no predators in the tank means things that normally come out at night when they feel somewhat safe will now come out during a lighting period. Sounds like you have lot's of stuff that hitchhiked in on the Lr which is usually good (predator crabs and mantis shrimp are bad hitchikers). For the corraline to grow the two most important things are calcium and Alk. get your calcium up to 400 and alk over 3 and your corraline will grow like crazy. your lighting is fine for corraline growth as it doesn't take much and too much as stated earlier will cause a die off.
