I have just run a test of my ammonia and trites and trates and all of them can up at nearly perfect levels. My gravity is fine and for the past week to two weeks I have had 3 button polyps and several feather dusters living fine in my aquarium and they all have actually grown. I have also had 2 dameslfish that have lived for the past 3 weeks just fine. My question is , is my cycling process over, my tank is only about 3 to 4 weeks old, I thought it took longer? When I set up my tank my dealer gave me used bio cylinders that were already bacteria filled and she also told me that I am running a rather large amount of live rock for a begining tank ( 40 pounds). Do you think it is ready to start adding fish or inverts I am I just drwaming. Any other tips will be gratly appreciated.

Did your ammonia level ever spike?
And no, for a 55g tank, the rock is about right.

definitely is not a large amount of rock for a beginner, your tandk should probably have more, and more rock willl actually make it easier, beginner or not, i always reccommend 1.5 lbs per gallon or more(especially if it si fiji, which it normally is)
next, what do you mena by near perfect, amm. and trites should be ZERO
, sometimes it may go fast, especially if you have well cured lr(which it does sound like, if you have dusters and polyps), but there is no such thing as near perfect with amm. and nitrite in a cycle, almost, can still take a while, or even not, but if it dide spike and fall, you could be close YES
after you reach zero no amm. and trites, you are ready to do a h2o change and start adding things
HTH
good luck and welcome aboard

It is suggested to have a pound to a pound and half of live rock per gallon.Did you use live sand?If so how many pounds you got?And near perfect? What were your levels. If it was anything but 0 your cycle is not over.

To test it, add a bit of flake food or I liked to use the pellets,b/c they sink. Add a pellet or two and wait a few days, if the tank if cycled the bacteria will break down the ammonia ect from the decomosing food. Then you will know if it is established. If it is not you will see a spike, but nothing that will upset the tank long term. HTH
