Am I right?

yeah really - i knew it was necessary for biological filtration, but have NEVER heard that it was reduce time required for cycling...
I figure with the amount of money that is made per pound of LR, they would push that over the damsel method.
I am going to start with FOWLR to begin, but will naturally move toward reef in the future. Lighting is a big deal there and I am not in the market for $300 worth of lighting right now.
I want to start with 2 aquacultured perc clowns - thoughts?

You can add the 2 percs. at a time. Get them ordered together or buy them from the same tank. Perferably 1 slightly larger than the other. The more agressive one will change into the female and the smaller one will remain the male.
Before you ask, no they do not need an anemone to live. And anemones typically need to be avoided until your tank is ready for them (and your experience) for like 9-12 months and they need metal halide lighting. You can get Power compacts for that tank around $100 or so.
When adding other fish after the clowns, wait a week or so then add. It is highly recommended to use a qt when you start to add more fish. Do a search on top for that. Good luck and we are always here. Barry

Is it your suggestion to remove ALL damsels out of the tank prior to adding the clowns?
And, how much water should I change before adding livestock?

Personally I do not like the damsels for reasons I mentioned earlier. I would remove them yes. And i would start doing 10-15% water changes everyweek no longer than everyother week.

Very nice tank
My tank cycled in 2 weeks, so its not unheard of. I used shipped LR from this site, plus a cocktail shrimp to help the LR along since I used some base rock and was afraid the 50 lbs I bought here wouldn't have enough die off for my 150 DT to cycle. I am thinking one or the other would have eventually cyced the tank eventually, maybe the combo made it cycle as fast as it did :notsure:
